Inter director Piero Ausilio said the club has “some ideas” on future transfer targets and believes in third place.

“I remain convinced, even more now than ever, that all the lads who arrived are great quality,” Ausilio told Inter Channel.

“Ivan Perisic’s performances have only been a surprise for those who pretended not to know how good he is.

“The most complicated transfer was Geoffrey Kondogbia, at least for the media pressure. The toughest in reality was with Wolfsburg for Perisic, because the German clubs are very demanding and have a different sense of timing to us.

“We have some ideas for future transfers, so we’re looking around to see if there are players suited to our needs.”

Fans and media have said Roberto Mancini is missing a creative midfielder, but Ausilio does not agree.

“We have some very good midfielders who can give Inter a great deal and proved that in recent games.”

On Saturday evening Inter go into a head-to-head with third-placed Roma.

“We are concentrated on the chance of achieving third place. That doesn’t mean we are certainly we’ll get it, but we will do everything possible to get there, then at the end will see where we are.

“At the start of each season there are six or seven sides who are all focused on the same objectives, but only two manage it, a third goes into a preliminary round and the others might miss out by just one point.”

Ausilio bitterly criticised the players for lacking “balls” after their Serie A defeat to Juventus, but the squad responded with a fantastic performance in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

“Obviously it wasn’t prepared beforehand and I gladly would’ve not said it, but at that moment I wanted to motivate the players.

“A side like Inter with important players must battle for a result in every game. That day we played very well in the first half, then gave up too easily. We have an excellent side and the moment the players realise that, they can bring out their quality.”
