Atletico Madrid have expressed their interest in signing Federico Bernardeschi, who has been linked with a move to Napoli following his departure from Juventus.

The 28-year-old Italian forward officially became a free agent yesterday after his contract expired with the Bianconeri, ending a five-year association. Bernardeschi did not have an easy time in Turin following his €40m move from Fiorentina and many felt he failed to live up to his earlier promise.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli have been interested in picking up Bernardeschi for a little while but now they’re facing competition from Atletico Madrid, who are debating making a move for the free agent.

Talks between the Partenopei and the player’s entourage have been slow, allowing Diego Simeone’s team to get involved.

During his five years with Juventus, Bernardeschi made 183 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing 24 assists in that time. He was part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad at Euro 2020 and he scored in penalty shoot-outs in both the semi-final and final.
