Atalanta starlet Giorgio Scalvini admits he will ‘have to think’ about potential offers from Liverpool and Inter ‘but it will happen only if I do well now.’

The 19-year-old Italian defender has scored two goals in 24 appearances with La Dea this season and has already played four games with Roberto Mancini’s Italy.

His contract at the Gewiss Stadium expires in June 2027, but he’s already been linked with a number of top clubs around Europe, including Liverpool, Inter, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

When specifically asked about the interest of those four clubs by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Scalvini replied: “I am happy at Atalanta, I’ve never listened to rumours and I’ve never been affected, so I don’t see worrying signals. Perhaps, I’ll have to think about it one day, but it will only happen if I do well now.”

Despite his young age, Scalvini has become one of the regular starters in Bergamo under Gian Piero Gasperini.

“Personality is part of the character and you improve that by playing and taking responsibility in certain moments and with determined behaviour,” he said.

The defender also reveals a phrase from Gasperini that particularly stuck with him: “Once he told me: ‘You are young, but I will treat you as a 30-year-old player.”

La Dea will meet José Mourinho’s Roma on Monday at the Gewiss Stadium. The Giallorossi have just qualified for the Europa League semi-finals after beating Feyenoord 4-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.

“European games boost motivation, especially after a 4-1 win, but I can’t say we won’t have less than them,” concluded Scalvini.
