Romelu Lukaku remains the only one punished by FIGC despite receiving racial abuse in a Coppa Italia game against Juventus and Il Corriere dello Sport ironically comments: ‘The next time, throw a sink at him.’

Inter‘s appeal against a one-match ban for the Belgian forward was rejected by the FIGC, meaning big Rom will miss the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Juventus next week.

Lukaku received two yellow cards in the first leg played in Turin on April 4. The second one came after a goal celebration that was considered disrespectful to the home crowd, although the majority of the 5,000 Juventus fans in Curva Sud had targeted the 29-year-old with racist insults and monkey noise.

Inter reacted angrily on Friday, saying in an official statement that the ‘victim has become the only guilty party.’

Juventus’ Curva had initially been closed for a game, but the Old Lady won the appeal after collaborating with authorities and identifying some of their racist ultras, banning them from the Allianz Stadium. Therefore, the Curva will be open on Sunday in a home Serie A match with Napoli.

‘Another missed chance,’ wrote Il Corriere dello Sport’s pundit Cristiano Gatti in Saturday’s printed edition of the newspaper.

‘It would have been ridiculous to hope for common sense. The crowd was forgiven, but the scandalous Lukaku was executed mercilessly.

‘This is the real result even if they will annoy us with laws and technicalities to prove how impeccable the lords of the court are. Pleased to be out of the world, the next time throw a sink at Lukaku.’
