Roma’s Davide Astori is looking forward to the Scudetto battle with Juventus, insisting that now is when ‘the fun begins’.

The Giallorossi closed the gap at the top of the table to just a single point with a win at Udinese yesterday, before the Old Lady were held by Inter at Juventus Stadium.

That means that Roma can go top of Serie A for the first time on Sunday, if they beat Lazio in the afternoon before the Bianconeri's evening match with Napoli.

Astori’s winning goal was the source of much controversy, with Udinese insisting the defender’s header hadn’t crossed the line, and replays inconclusive, but the centre-back is excited by the battle for the title.

“Now the fun begins, because the gap has closed to the top of the table,” Astori explained to Radio Roma.

“Every point becomes important, not decisive, but really something to think about. On Sunday we have the first opportunity to go above Juventus.

“We know we can be a great team, we need results such as the ones which could occur on Sunday to boost our confidence.”

Udinese Coach Andrea Stramaccioni was furious in the wake of yesterday’s match, believing that Astori’s goal should have been disallowed in line with the opinion of the official behind the goal.

“Every Coach protects his team, and that’s what Stramaccioni did,” Astori said.

“The only flaw yesterday was ours for not putting the game to bed. We played as Roma do, with quality, and making the play.”
