Davide Astori regrets Fiorentina's draw to Frosinone: 'The pitch was slow, we couldn't play our game'.

The Viola could have won two points on third-placed Roma today, as the Giallorossi drew to Inter, but the opportunity was wasted.

“We're disappointed by this result,” Astori told the Press. “We showed a reaction after last time's terrible performance [Fiorentina-Verona, 1-1].

“Frosinone play on a difficult pitch, where things are slow and the conditions are difficult for those who play the ball.

“They won 90 per cent of their games here, but we're happy about the performance anyway.

“It's going to be hard to catch up to Roma in the Champions League race, they're keeping a pace worthy of the Scudetto and on paper they have a better squad.”

The central defender was then asked about his teammate Federico Bernardeschi, who received his first call-up with the Azzurri and was praised by Juventus' Gianluigi Buffon as Italy's greatest talent.

“I'm very happy for him. He's very curious, he immediately asked a thousand questions about the Azzurri environment.

“Spending ten days with the national team will teach him what it means to play under certain conditions.

“[Ciprian] Tatarusanu makes up 80 per cent of our game, but we were superficial for not understanding that on this pitch you can't play much with the goalkeeper.

“Blaming the strikers? If we don't score people blame the strikers, if we concede people blame the defenders. I know how it works.

“Kalinic today was a bit unlucky, but his performance wasn't poor.

“We still have faith in our target [third place], otherwise we'd just play long balls all the time. We still have seven games to show who we are.”
