Bologna are finally close to securing Austria international Marko Arnautovic after agreeing terms with Shanghai SIPG.

The 32-year-old centre-forward has always been first choice for coach Sinisa Mihajlovic and made it clear he wanted the move too several months ago.

The problem was the contract with Shanghai SIPG, which ran to December 2022.

It was reported that he could terminate the deal by mutual consent fairly easily, but it proved more difficult to extricate him from the agreement.

He joined them for €25m from West Ham United in the summer of 2019, having previously played for the likes of Inter, FC Twente, Werder Bremen and Stoke City.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bologna have finally reached an agreement to pay Shanghai Port circa €3m to release Arnautovic.

The player is also reportedly prepared to take a pay cut by spreading the wages over an extended contract to June 2023.

Arnautovic played for Austria at UEFA EURO 2020 and has 27 goals in 91 senior caps for his country.
