Alberto Aquilani concedes Fiorentina are dreaming of the Scudetto, “but it’d be very difficult.”

The Tuscans finished fourth last season and have reinforced with players like Mario Gomez, Joaquin and Massimo Ambrosini.

“We did some great things in midfield last year and this time round have some different options, so will try to make the most of our characteristics,” said Aquilani in his Press conference.

“I am aware that I have to give more, though we’ll see quite how much. In pre-season we’re putting petrol in the tank and it really helps that so many of us now know the environment. We are preparing for a very important season.”

The Viola have even been mentioned as potential Scudetto contenders in 2013-14.

“Obviously everyone likes to talk about the Scudetto, but perhaps that word is used a bit too often. In order to reach the title you have to play a fantastic season without ups and downs. The club has done very well on the transfer market, but it’d be very difficult to win the Scudetto.”

Fiorentina are in the Europa League this term and have their sights set on the Final, which will be at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.

“It would be a great result and joy to win it in Juve’s stadium. The important thing is to go as far as possible, then we’ll see. Winning the Europa League would be extraordinary.”

The club is concerned by the Adem Ljajic situation, as his contract expires in June 2014 and he’s reportedly pushing for a move to Milan.

“Adem looks calm and relaxed to me,” insisted Aquilani. “Of course, at a certain stage in his career he must decide whether to stay or go.

“I remain convinced he wants to stay here. There are some offers, but he wants to stay with Fiorentina. It’s an important crossroads for him and if the club doesn’t meet his contract demands then it means we’ll face him playing for another team.”
