Empoli coach Aurelio Andreazzoli looks forward to a ‘difficult challenge’ against Genoa on Friday and said the Azzurri ‘must not be distracted‘ by their current position in the table.

The newly promoted side have picked up 15 points from the first 11 games and are pushing the teams in the top half of Serie A.

But Andreazzoli stressed the team ‘must be aware of who we are’ and pointed at a ‘young and inexperienced’ group of players working for ‘the best possible’ results.

“I have neither set limits nor goals,” Andreazzoli said at a press conference. “We all hope to the best possible, I’m not able to estimate.

“We like our position in the table, but it puts us in a position to know that the danger begins now. We are the same teams as we have been for a while, the team someone defined as unpresentable.

“We must have the conviction that we are a young and inexperienced team, searching for our identity. We must be very careful and understand that our path is always the same as before.

“We must not be distracted and be aware of who we are.”

Genoa are just outside the relegation zone and desperately in need of points ahead of the game on Friday night.

“Up to now, Genoa have shown that they are a team that never give up,” Andreazzoli stressed. “They have had many difficulties but have always tried to recover the games and in some they have even succeeded.

“They have the same difficulties as we have. We will face an equipped and tough team, in the sense that it chances skin from time to time, even withing the same game.

“It will be a great but difficult challenge.”
