“I hope to take Napoli on to the top of the Serie A podium,” the Coach told DAZN.

He will face his old club nine years after leaving Milan for trophy-winning adventures at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The tactician had always said he wouldn’t face his past, so return to Italy only for Milan or Roma, but was a surprise replacement for Maurizio Sarri.

“I first and foremost wanted to come back to Italy and to speak Italian again. Secondly, I was convinced by the club’s project. This squad has a lot of quality and haven’t reached the top of the podium yet, but are very close. I hope with my experience and help to take them on that final step.”

During his years as Milan Coach, Ancelotti could count on the services of current Rossoneri tactician Gattuso as his midfield enforcer.

“Rino is still the same in terms of character. You can tell from the way his team plays: focused, well-organised, solid, aggressive. Just like Gattuso as a player.

“In some ways I did expect him to become a Coach, in others I really didn’t. The key uniting all those who go into this line of work is passion and Gattuso formed his whole wonderful career on passion.”
