Carlo Ancelotti confirms Paris Saint-Germain “still like” Alexandre Pato and says Fabio Capello was right “not to let the England FA tread on him.”

There was a €35m deal in place for the Milan striker, but he pulled out at the last minute, although many expect talks to resume in the summer.

“We liked Pato in January and I cannot say we won’t still like him in June,” the PSG manager told RAI Sport.

“We were looking for a forward and there weren’t many other opportunities. In any case, there are other objectives too.”

Former Chelsea boss Ancelotti gave his view on Capello’s decision to resign from the England job just months before Euro 2012 due to a dispute over the captain’s armband.

“It was a strong decision not to let the England FA tread on him and a choice I share. He did the right thing.”

Ancelotti was also asked about various other areas of European football, including the Champions League and Inter’s crisis.

“Real Madrid and Barcelona have something more than the rest, but who knows whether Milan could break in as a surprise?

“Inter’s sudden collapse surprised me. It’s a shame that the big clubs are not as strong as they used to be, because Italian football needs them. That is why it is pleasing to see Juventus rise again.”
