Carlo Ancelotti has broken yet another Champions League record, becoming the first coach to reach the quarter-finals in four consecutive decades after Real Madrid overturned PSG.

The Merengues lost the first let 1-0 and went 1-0 down at home too, both goals from Kylian Mbappé.

However, Karim Benzema harassed Gianluigi Donnarumma into an error in possession, sparking the Paris Saint-Germain psychological collapse.

Benzema completed a hat-trick in the space of 17 minutes, winning 3-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate.

Champions League: Donnarumma error sparks PSG collapse in Madrid

It means Ancelotti becomes the first coach in the history of the modern Champions League to reach the quarter-finals in four different decades.

His first was in charge of Juventus in 1999 and he’ll now compete with Real Madrid in 2022.

The 62-year-old Italian won the Champions League with Milan in 2003 and 2007, then with Real Madrid in 2014.

Real Madrid are also top of LaLiga at the moment, so Ancelotti could end this season becoming the first coach ever to win the league title in all five top European football nations.

He won the Scudetto at Milan, Premier League with Chelsea, Ligue 1 title for PSG and Bundesliga at Bayern Munich.

4 thought on “Ancelotti makes Champions League history for Real Madrid”
  1. The most prominent Italian figure on display in this match was always Ancelotti, not Dollarumma or Verratti.

Next time show some respect and do an article about him before their match.

  2. Get over it. Football is a business. Players come and go. Same old psg crumbled. Again. Nice to see the saudis failing.

  3. Do not worry the perennial whipping boys and biggest losers (7/9) of Europe will go out next week. To be honest I hope they go through as I really would like to see them get taken to the cleaners and lose 8-0 to either City or Munich.
