Massimo Ambrosini has claimed that he doesn’t want to ‘rush’ into a new contract with Fiorentina.

The veteran midfielder’s deal with the Viola ends in the summer, but he has insisted that he won’t sit down with the club just yet to discuss terms.

“At my age it makes no sense to rush into things,” he told La Repubblica. “Prior to carrying on here I want to know if I’m still useful.

“I don’t want to sign just for the sake of it.

“This team was built to compete and win. Projects are usually built for three year targets and it’s only then that we can judge what we’re doing here.”

The former Milan man then commented on the signing of Alessandro Matri and the potential arrival of Anderson from Manchester United.

“Matri is a nice striker. Anderson meanwhile, has experience at a top club – he’s a technical player with muscle. That’s the sort of player we need.”
