Massimo Ambrosini has revealed how Fiorentina convinced him to join them at the end of his Milan contract.

The 36-year-old moved to Tuscany in the summer after spending 18 years on the books of the Diavolo.

“I’m here because of the project,” the midfielder told the Corriere della Sera. “In football, the project word is often used at random.

“However, the project is for real here – quality of play, ambitious youngsters, an identity as a team.

“But patience is needed and the development could cost us something. As was the case in Milan.

“I also chose Fiorentina because I had to prove something to myself," he added. "I’m satisfied with how things are going, but let us not get carried away. We are only at the beginning…”

Ambrosini has scored one goal in eight appearances for the Viola since his arrival.

Big things were expected of Fiorentina, but they have had a frustrating start to the season after finishing fourth in the last campaign.

“We are missing at least four points,” Ambrosini continued. “Cagliari drew level with us at the end, Parma in the very last second.

“However, the loss to Inter remains in my stomach. We had that game in our hands, we could have drawn at worst and yet we lost it.”

The Viola, who entertain Juventus this weekend, are sixth in the table after collecting 12 points from seven games.
