Former striker José Altafini advises Milan to sign Manchester United midfielder Fred and believed Josip Ilicic could do well with the Rossoneri.

Ilicic is one of the players on the Rossoneri’s shopping list as the club are still on the lookout for a new attacking midfielder after Hakan Calhanoglu’s Inter move.

“He had a complicated season, but if he recovers, he could be a great signing,” Altafini told Tuttosport (Via PianetaMilan).

The Rossoneri have brought Brahim Diaz back to the club on a two-year loan with an option to buy and Altafini believes the Spaniard can also play a key role next season.

“He is an exciting player, with great technical skills,” the 83-year-old said.

“He’s proved to be fit and willing to prove his worth, he can improve, but I think he will do well next season.”

The Rossoneri are the highest spenders in Serie A so far, having already invested €60m in new signings.

However, the transfer window is not over yet and the Rossoneri are planning to bring more new faces to San Siro.

“If I had to build a team from scratch, I would always sign Argentinean defenders and Brazilian midfielders. I think Manchester United’s Fred and Lille’s Renato Sanches would be perfect for playing as attacking midfielders at Milan, they are really strong.”

Fred, 28, is a Brazil international and his contract at Old Trafford expires in 2023, while Renato Sanches is a Portugal international and his contract at Lille runs out in the same year.

Altafini is one of the best strikers to have ever played in Serie A. He scored 161 goals in 246 appearances with Milan, adding 97 in 234 matches with Napoli and 37 in 119 games with Juventus.
