“Sampdoria are having a great campaign compared to last season,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

“They have excellent players and are put together by a Coach who has brought renewed enthusiasm. The early Sunday kick-offs are always a little strange, especially as Samp have nothing to lose and can their all against us.

“Samp are organised and run hard, so we cannot afford any slip-ups tomorrow.”

The Bianconeri have drawn their last two games 0-0 in all competition, held by Fiorentina and Atletico Madrid.

“I don’t think what happened in the Champions League will affect the Scudetto race. We reached a good level, the lads deserved it by playing a good group, but the difficult part comes now. We have three important games in the next 10 days before the Christmas break: two to maintain Serie A leadership and one in the Italian Super Cup.”

Roma went out of the Champions League this week and declared they would pour all their focus on to the Scudetto. Does Allegri consider that a realistic objective?

“I think Roma are always concentrated and the Europa League doesn’t feel that different to the Champions League.

“I have no reason to talk about our game with Roma, as we played it two months ago. In Serie A the team that finishes with the most points is the winner. It’s that simple.”

Giorgio Chiellini is suspended against Sampdoria, so Allegri confirmed Angelo Ogbonna will take his place.

“I have doubts in attack and midfield, though. When you train a great team, you need great players in every area. We have a lot of competition for places and it’s indispensable that everyone believes they can play.”
