Massimiliano Allegri had something to smile about as Juventus beat Lazio in their Coppa Italia semi-final clash, earning positive reviews from the Italian newspapers.

The Bianconeri have been in a run of dire form over the last two months, picking up just seven points in their last nine Serie A games. Their disappointing work has increased the pressure on the coach as the summer nears, with many fans in Turin desperate to see a change in the dugout.

Juventus proved frustrating in their Serie A clash with Lazio on Sunday, suffering a 1-0 loss after a late winner, but they took revenge in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie, cruising to a 2-0 win after second half goals from Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic.

La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote a decent review of Allegri’s work in Juventus’ win, although made clear he wasn’t entirely to thank for the result, writing: “He put one foot in the final by returning to the three-man defence. Good management, even if more could have been done in the first half. Of course, having Vlahovic helps…”

Corriere dello Sport underlined the importance of the Bianconeri’s cup win as they look to restore their league form, saying: “Vitamin Coppa Italia. The Stadium blew whistles after half the match and the ghosts still seemed to hover.

“Then Chiesa and Vlahovic entered the scene and there were fireworks again. Juve found their champions again, the victory and their smile. All things to bring to the league for the Champions League.”

Tuttosport detailed a longer review of Allegri and Juventus’ work, commenting: “We just needed to win, to get closer to the final and to regain enthusiasm in the Champions League race in the league. Mission accomplished with a good second half, where Lazio were put on the ropes.

“But in the first half, apart from the foaming at the mouth outburst in the first (few) minutes, those who had the ball at their feet didn’t have any ideas and those who didn’t, didn’t have the movements to free themselves into space.”
