Max Allegri was very pleased with the performance of Milan newcomers Mark Van Bommel and Urby Emanuelson.

The two new signings were thrown straight into the starting XI for today's 2-1 Coppa Italia quarter-final victory at Sampdoria.

“It was important for us to get through this round and reach the semi-final,” said the Coach.

“We played an excellent first half and could've sealed qualification before the break, but then we conceded and it was only normal that Samp would pour forward to complete the comeback.

“We defended in an organised manner and were able to do things properly.”

Alexandre Pato was the undoubted star with a brace, while the newcomers played the entire 90 minutes.

“Pato had a great game and I was especially pleased with his work off the ball,” continued Allegri.

“Emanuelson had a good first half, then he did vanish from the game slightly. It was only to be expected that he and Van Bommel would take time to settle, as they haven't yet had a single training session with their teammates.

“Today Van Bommel played wide and needed some time to find his position, so he did better in the second half.”
