Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte are the first choices to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United next season, it’s reported.

While former Chelsea boss Conte has also been linked with the role at Real Madrid and could in theory take over during the current campaign, any push for Allegri would have to wait until next term.

According to the Sunday Express newspaper, Manchester United chiefs have pinpointed the two Italians as the pragmatic but not dour approach they want for their team going forward.

Conte has already won the Premier League and the FA Cup with Chelsea, so has experience of English football.

He also knows Paul Pogba, having worked with the midfielder when he was still a teenager at Juve.

Allegri has reached two Champions League Finals in four years and is this season going for the Treble in Turin.

His side dominated possession and the initiative in a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford this week, further impressing the Manchester United hierarchy.
