Juventus coach Max Allegri congratulates 18-year-old Fabio Miretti on his full debut against Venezia, while looking at the ‘positive’ side of Champions League elimination to Villarreal.

The Bianconeri have practically secured their Champions League qualification for next season with this hard-fought 2-1 win over rock bottom Venezia.

It took a pair of Leonardo Bonucci goals, bundling over the line from close range on knocked-down set plays, to cancel out the Mattia Aramu scorcher.

“It was a good start to the game, a series of shots on goal and we took the lead, but then we got a bit too deep, still creating chances to double our lead,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“After the break, the goal was in the air for Venezia and they did really well. We were fortunate to score the second goal straight away.

“You can talk about tactics, we could do better, but the fact remains it’s been the same players in every game for three months now and we have to take this as a good result.”

Fabio Miretti had an impressive first start for the senior squad at the age of 18 in midfield.

“Fabio had a good game, he knows how to play football, so it’s easier for him. He always tries to pass it forward, which is a good sign, he played with good character and I am very pleased that the team looked to him today. I thank the Juventus academy that raised him over the last eight years.

“It’s rare that a lad who is raised in the youth academy then makes it to the senior squad, that is just statistics, I saw it at Milan first and then Juventus.

“I don’t know if we’ll see other youth players this season, but it’s natural at this age you see them one day and they seem like champions, you see them another and they seem hopeless. Everyone has a different journey, we already have players in the squad who need to gain experience and need to find that balance.

“Some young players need more calm on the ball, but Miretti already seems to have that.”

Allegri said in his press conference that he was annoyed at not challenging for the Scudetto this season.

“There’s no point going back over the Cristiano Ronaldo exit, but we also lost a lot of players to traumatic injuries and that was damaging. Reflecting after the game, if we are in this position, it’s not that bad. If we had beaten Villarreal and reached the Champions League quarter-final, we might’ve used up energy needed to retain fourth place in Serie A. So let’s look at the positives.”

  1. I personelly prefer Allegri at Juve fro the next 3 years. He never falls into those rumblings about tranfert policy or what ever. never trie to find scape goat. always honest. I mean look at A. Conte he can not spend more than 2 season at club without all the noise that goes with him.
I prefer this pragmatism. You cannot just turn a team like Juve that has been playing like this for years into a Guardiola style overnight. Experience has proven that switching coaches every now and then is not the solution.
Just look at Milan years ago, now Man. Utd.
Allegri for the next two years to see what he can bring. At least I see some player improving let’s just get rid of some

  2. I stopped paying attention to people here trashing Allegri. The man is doing an outstanding job with the players he has. We have the most injuries to key players in the league and we are still getting results. It is very clear to see why he will rather sit back then attack. When we attack we just lack the quality to get goals. Under Pirlo we would have lost or drawn this game. We need 2 or 3 new players and I think the board has finally got this point. Next season with some players back with should be firing on all cylinders. You cant constantly attack if you dont have the quality to finish off the opportunities. Allegri sees it, majority of the people here see it, but some clowns here dont. BTW I think we got also lucky here today in the first half as that Zakaria foul should have been a red. Good result. Now lets just cement the CL spot and beat Inter in the cup final. Forza Juve!!

  3. Yes Allegri is a genius because still reaching CL spot and Copa Italia final with a squad full of wrong castet players and injury prones is acceptable.
We have basically played with out a central midfield for 2 years now.

  4. @Many wise guys you have valid points, but having no midfield is the problem that comes from the higher ups for not doing anything about it. That said Allegri has fewer points then Pirlo, at least 9 teams have scored more and we are not keeping clean sheets. I get behind the team whoever is in charge even Sarri reluctantly, but if these issues persist next year and we do not start strongly then he has to go. This season we started awfully and were out the race far too early. I Will give Allegri the benefit of the doubt if the midfield is not addressed, but if so he has to take full responsibility and no room to hide.

  5. I’m not even a Juve fan, but do you realize what he said in the last statement about CL and the defeat to Villareal ??!!!
He said if it weren’t for the defeat we wouldn’t have secured a top 4 finish !!
So that is the positive !!??
This is coming from a man who’s managing Juve.
He’s got some nerve to be making those type of statements, and the fans clearly can see through this banal bs.

But you see, he’s being backed by the Juve management and that what counts in his mind.
