Massimiliano Allegri admits Milan played “a terrible game, but the defeat to Lazio can do us good.”

The Rossoneri could’ve gone top after Juve’s match with Parma was snowed off last night, but they fell 2-0 at the Olimpico instead.

“We played a terrible game against a team that did not allow us much, but this is not giving the all-clear to Juventus” data-scaytid=”32″>Juventus,” said the Coach.

“The campaign is still long and there will be time to discuss these things. I believe the defeat can do us good and help us to grow.

“Lately, despite winning, we haven’t had the same grit that we need to win the Scudetto. This is why I believe the defeat can be healthy.”

The result did show a definite trend this season, as Milan have lost to all the big clubs: Juventus, Napoli, Lazio and Inter.

“Unfortunately these are the statistics and so we have to improve our mentality when playing against the top teams. It’s not that we work less harder, but we do have a different mental attitude compared to other games.”

There was controversy, though, as Stephen El Shaarawy wanted a penalty for an Andre Dias handling offence, but it’s unclear why the linesman advised the referee against it.

“I believe he said it was El Shaarawy’s handling offence and not the Lazio defender. He changed the referee’s mind, as the penalty had originally been given.”

Replays show that Dias punched the ball off El Shaarawy’s chest.
