The Brazilian has been in sensational form this season, catching the eye of teams like Real Madrid, but last season he was backup to Wojciech Szczesny.

“It was a year of waiting,” Alisson recalled in an interview with Undici.

“I expected to play more, but I never gave up at any point, I trained really hard. I also learned to watch the game before I received the ball, so I could play better with my feet.

“That way I already know what I’m going to do.

“A modern goalkeeper has to have positional sense, personality, concentration and above all the ability to read the game in advance.

“As a goalkeeper I have to think that my teammate will make a mistake, so I can always be ready and not be surprised.

“I watch the opponent’s matches and characteristics before I face them, then on the day of the match I focus on my performance.

“I watch my videos, the saves I’ve made and why I did that. I focus a lot on concentration.

“Then in the dressing room I try to visualise what will happen in the match.”

Alisson also discussed current Lupi boss Eusebio Di Francesco.

“Di Francesco is an intelligent man and he has a fierce will to win, like me. It’s a virtue, I’m glad the boss wants to win more than anyone.”

Assuming he’s not injured, the 25-year-old will be in goal for Brazil at the World Cup this summer…

“I never imagined it, but I always dreamed of it,” Alisson said.

“My dad always used to say to me: ‘think big and you’ll be great’. After my first game I decided to become one of the best goalkeepers for the Brazilian national team.

“I know I’m not perfect, which is why I sometimes work too much, I’m really hard on myself.

“The internal pressure, my own, comes first and weighs on me more than any that comes from outside.”
