Roma goalkeeper Alisson admits he would have asked to leave the club had he not been guaranteed first team football.
The Brazilian joined the Giallorossi last summer and spent his first season at the club as second choice to Wojciech Szczesny.
However, with the Pole having since departed for Juventus and Eusebio Di Francesco replacing Luciano Spalletti as Coach, the 24-year-old’s situation has changed.
He has started both of Roma’s Serie A matches so far this season and is now eyeing a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad next summer.

“If I hadn’t had the guarantee of playing, I would have asked to leave Roma,” Alisson admitted.
“This is the most important year of my career. I didn’t want to leave, but I would have had to think of myself and my targets.
“Now I know that everything depends on me and my performances. Nobody in Brazil, in a World Cup year, has a guaranteed place.”
Alisson admitted that he had become frustrated with life under Spalletti, although he never raised his concerns to his former boss.
“I didn’t play much due to the decisions of out ex-Coach, Spalletti.
“I am a calm boy and I don’t like talking. I didn’t feel comfortable going to him and saying things because he chose to have two high-level keepers and he played me in the cups.
“He used meritocracy because Szczesny had done well during the first year.
“Let’s say that I learned to have a bit of patience.”
