Despite being persuaded to join the Vesuviani by Benitez himself, Albiol now feels at home regardless of his compatriot’s decision at the end of the season, according to his agent.
“Raul is focused and he is in love with the city,” the player’s representative and brother Miguel has told Radio Crc today.
“When Napoli showed to be interested in him, he was flattered.
“Today, after two seasons, he is very happy with the choice he has made and his next target is to win something important with Napoli.
“I spoke with him after the game against Roma and he was really happy.
“Benitez’s contract expires at the end of the season and I don’t know what his intentions are for the future.
“But what I do know is that my brother wants to stay in Naples, regardless of the Coach, because he feels at home there and for this reason there’s no discussion over this future – he wants Napoli.”
Miguel Albiol also reflected on Napoli’s form of late.
“If Napoli were to find some consistency in terms of results, I am sure they could fight for the League, I am confident about this.
“Working in that direction, I am sure that Napoli will have a fantastic season.”
Finally, Miguel responded to criticism towards his brother who has been accused of some below-par performances during the first 10 games of the season.
“I don’t understand why Raul should be criticised. He is fit and there are doctors and nutritionists who constantly follow him. I think that his performances have been good so far.”
