Juventus President Andrea Agnelli says VAR is “an irreversible process”, and hopes it will be introduced in the Champions League.

The Bianconeri chief was elected as the head of the European Club Association in September, and he chaired a meeting in Rome today.

“It was introduced in Italy, in Germany, in some international competitions and it’ll be used at the World Cup,” Agnelli said of the Video Assistant Referee technology.

“It was introduced in Italy, in Germany, in some international competitions and it’ll be used at the World Cup,” Agnelli said of the Video Assistant Referee technology.

“You can’t go back, it’s an irreversible process but UEFA’s timescale has to be respected. We hope it can be introduced by 2020.”

UEFA President Alksander Ceferin sounded a note of caution, however.

“We have not talked about it with the clubs, but before applying it to the Champions League, it needs to be perfect.

“Technology can help the referees, but the system is still not ready.”
