Francesco Acerbi’s agent Federico Pastorello has provided an update on the negotiations following tonight’s meeting with Inter.

The 35-year-old Italian centre back is angling for a move to the Nerazzurri, keen to be reunited with Simone Inzaghi after a difficult season in Rome under Maurizio Sarri. The fans seem less keen about Acerbi’s arrival and their displeasure has been seen widely across social media in recent days.

Speaking to gathered reporters, Pastorello discussed the status of the talks following the meeting at Inter’s headquarters.

“It went well, we just took stock of the situation, it’s known that Inter are looking for a central defender. Let’s see if it will be Acerbi or someone else, I have to be honest that they were honest in confirming that there are other options.

“The guy being Italian and having already worked with Inzaghi may be one of the candidates. We have taken a small step forward, though, because Lazio have opened up to a loan deal.”

He touched on if Inzaghi being at Inter helps convince Acerbi of the move.

“Yes, very much so. Clearly he was one of the targets, if he were to leave Lazio, Inter would be one of the favourite destinations.”

Finally, Pastorello commented on which team Acerbi will be playing for by the time Lazio host Inter later this week.

“It will be discussed in the coming days, definitely. 100% after the game.”

The 35-year-old Acerbi did not have a positive year in Rome; the veteran initially struggled to adapt to Sarri’s 4-3-3 system and his decision to celebrate with a ‘shh’ gesture aimed at the Lazio fans after a goal against Genoa in December was an obvious mistake. Despite a quick apology, he wasn’t forgiven by the fans, and things went downhill from there.
