The agent of Galatasaray midfielder Felipe Melo admits his client ‘would like to play for a team like Inter’.

The Brazilian worked with Nerazzurri Coach Roberto Mancini during the latter’s time in Turkey, and has previously expressed an interest in returning to Italy, having represented Juventus and Fiorentina.

“Like all players, Felipe would like to play for a team like Inter,” revealed, speaking to FCInterNews.

“If the Nerazzurri want him then they’ll have to talk to Galatasaray, because he still has another year on his contract with the Turkish club.

“There’s nothing official, but there’s been some contact with Inter on my part, because Mancini knows what Melo can give to the team.

“I’m aware of the fact that Inter are looking for one or two midfielders who can take a starting position, and I think Felipe could easily be a starter at Inter.”

There has been speculation Melo could invoke Article 17 of FIFA’s transfer regulations to terminate his contract, the so-called ‘Webster ruling’.

Named after Scottish defender Andy Webster, the ruling is a precedent set when Webster was frozen out of the Heart of Midlothian team, having refused a new contract.

Despite having a year to run on his deal, Webster walked away from the Edinburgh side, signing for English side Wigan, which FIFA later approved.

“Felipe has done really well with Gala. He has another year on his contract, and one of the options we are considering is renewing with the Turkish side, but there’s no scenario where we’d use this article.

“The player doesn’t deserve that, nor does the club, because, if he were to leave, it would be wrong to have such a bad end to a good relationship between the player, the club and the fans.

“If he were to leave to join a club like Inter, he wouldn’t want to do any harm to Galatasaray, so the clubs will have to talk each other to make a deal go ahead.”
