Pippo Inzaghi pleads for more time, insisting his Milan squad can become competitive with some ‘important players’.

The Rossoneri have been disappointing in the former striker’s first campaign as a top-flight Coach, currently sitting 10th, with the tactician almost certain to be dismissed at the end of the season.

“You can see Milan is moving forward, the club now knows what is needed,” Inzaghi insisted in his Press conference ahead of the Atalanta game.

“I think there are a lot of players here who, in addition to being good technically, are also good morally. The first one who comes to mind is [Keisuke] Honda, who works for 10 hours a day.

“He’ll play tomorrow, I hope he scores, because he deserves it.

“There are 15 others like him, and that’s important. If some important players come into this squad, it will return to being competitive.

“I know it’s difficult to ask for more patience, but that’s what it will take. The more great players there are, the better.

“The team’s season… we’ve got less than we thought. The last game [against Torino] was good, but we’ve started to play well as a team again too late.

“We’re coming off three or four games which we’ve handled in the right way, the last two at home we did very well.

“There will be a great atmosphere in Bergamo, and Atalanta will be happy to have reached safety.

“I hope the team confirms what it has shown in the last few games, and fights for the Milan shirt. We have to finish the season head-on.”

Inzaghi spent most of the conference addressing rumours around his future, and is sure he can bring the club back to being competitive.

“I have daily contact with [joint-CEO Adriano] Galliani, we’re all aware that this Milan side must improve.

“If I’m given the opportunity, then I will continue. It will take a lot of work, but not too much. The squad showed against Lazio, Roma and Torino that we’re a team. We have to start from here.”

Atalanta are one of the clubs Inzaghi represented during his playing days, and another, Juventus, has reached the Champions League final, and the Coach was asked to comment on their chances.

“It will be a good game,” the man who scored 89 goals in 165 games for the Bianconeri predicted.

“However, I’m thinking about tomorrow’s game. It’s great to see an Italian team in the final of the Champions League, but my game is tomorrow.”
