Davide Astori’s long-time agent admits he is ‘destroyed’ by the Fiorentina defender’s death as “he was like a son”.

Claudio Vigorito represented Astori throughout his career, until his untimely passing on Sunday, and he paid tribute to his “golden boy”, while revealing the 31-year-old “would’ve ended his career” at Fiorentina.

“I find it hard to believe. I’m destroyed,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“He was a golden boy. I can’t come to terms with any of it. I don’t want to believe it.

“For me, he was like a son because I watched him grow, year after year, season after season.

“I’d worked with him since he played for Milan’s youth teams. From the Primavera, even the Allievi.

“As a player, there’s not much else to say: he was the captain of Fiorentina, he was part of the national team and had played for some important teams.

“As a man, he was exceptional, a very polite boy who came from a respectable family. His father is a fantastic person. Why did this all happen?

“Davide was someone you couldn’t love. Even his Presidents were crazy about him.

“Cellino was “in love” with him, Giulini too, but some of his teammates told me that in an ideal dressing room, there would’ve been 22 Astoris for the way he stood with not only his teammates and Coach but also his opponents.

“Throughout his career, I’ve taken care of all his transfers: first the small ones and then those to Cagliari, Roma and Fiorentina.

“He would’ve ended his career [at Fiorentina] because he was happy in Florence.”
