Francesco Acerbi’s agent admits Inter will try to negotiate down the €4m agreed price with Lazio for Francesco Acerbi, but insists ‘if he was 10 years younger, he’d be worth €50m.’

The 34-year-old had come to the end of the road at the Stadio Olimpico following the breakdown of his relationship with the ultras, while he also struggled to come to terms with Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 tactics.

He was sent out on loan to Inter with an option to buy at the end of the season for €3.5-4m with bonuses.

“There is a set option to buy, but fundamentally it was just put there without much negotiation, as we knew it could be discussed later,” agent Federico Pastorello told Tuttomercatoweb.

“In my view, it would be better for the two clubs to set a more suitable fee. I am not of course referring to the value of the player, because if Acerbi was 10 years younger, he’d be worth €50m.

“When you are about to turn 35, it’s unlikely Inter in their current circumstances will want to invest €4m. I remain confident in the good common sense of all involved. After all, Acerbi already knew Simone Inzaghi well and is impressing at Inter.

“We just need to all sit down at the end of the season and discuss the way around this.”

The Italy international made 14 appearances for Inter so far this season between Serie A and the Champions League.

Lazio had paid €12m to sign Acerbi from Sassuolo in the summer of 2018, while his previous clubs include Milan, Genoa, Chievo and Reggina.

His contract with the Biancocelesti runs to June 2025, so Lazio are in a strong bargaining position.

  1. If I knew how to play football, I would be worth €238M

    I don’t get Inter’s willingness to pay €4M for someone who’s almost 40
