Matteo Darmian replied to a Juanmi header to give Inter a 1-1 friendly draw against Real Betis in Seville.

The Nerazzurri continue their preparations during the break for the 2022 World Cup and will resume their Serie A fixtures from January 4 against leaders Napoli.

There was a minute’s silence before kick-off at the Benito Villamarin for Sinisa Mihajlovic, who was both player and assistant manager at Inter and died on Friday at the age of 53 from leukaemia.

Nicolò Barella had the ball in the net after 23 minutes, but was offside when Robin Gosens put in the cross.

Victor Ruiz, Hakan Calhanoglu and Miranda tested the goalkeepers from distance, while Claudio Bravo needed a fine save to deny Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Betis took the lead when Inter lost the ball cheaply in midfield and Joaquin’s cross found the head of Juanmi amid a static defence.

However, Darmian equalised moments later on a Mkhitaryan through ball, with Federico Dimarco starting the move.
