Francesco Acerbi has claimed Lazio know they “can achieve great things” despite not grabbing the opportunity to go second against Hellas Verona.

After the stalemate against Verona on Wednesday, the 31-year-old defender decides to focus on the positive aspect and another point “claimed” in the fight against Inter and Juventus.

“We had an excellent performance, hitting the woodwork and forcing their goalkeeper to make many great saves,” Acerbi told Sky Sport Italia. “We faced an excellent Verona, a strong team that put us in difficulty.

“We still created a lot, and, in the end, we claimed another point. You can’t win every time, even if we are disappointed.

“I repeat, we gained a point on the fifth and a point on Inter.”

Verona coach Ivan Juric praised Lazio and said that this Biancoceleste could challenge Juventus and Inter for the title this season.

Lazio are already out of the Europa League and the Coppa Italia, and Acerbi admitted that it could be an advantage for his team.

“I thank him, we have shown that we can win against Juve and perform well,” Acerbi added. “We are up there, and we challenge all of them. Above all, it depends only on us to give the answers.

“Of course, we would like to go to the Champions League, we will only play one game every week and perhaps this might be a small advantage for us.”

He said that the focus is to qualify for the Champions League and if Lazio are still battling for the Scudetto when there’s a few games left, they will go for it.

“We look each other in the eyes every day,” he said. “We want to do great things without having to say the word Scudetto.

“We can’t remain out of the Champions League if we continue what we are doing and then, six or seven days from the end, if we are still up there, we will definitely try.

“We know we can achieve great things; we must continue like this. That’s important.”
