Tammy Abraham is convinced that he will play at the World Cup one day and insists that being snubbed by England for Qatar was not a big disappointment.

The former Chelsea striker has scored four goals in 20 appearances across all competitions this season and his poor goal-scoring record in the first part of the campaign was the main reason why England boss Gareth Southgate didn’t include him in his 26-man squad for Qatar.

Was it a big disappointment for Abraham?

“I wouldn’t say big. It was a disappointment, surely. Of course, I wasn’t happy,” the striker told Gazzetta.

“But these things make you stronger, leaving that desire to do more and improve. My career has been characterised by these moments, also in the past. I am still young, I have many years ahead and I am sure I will have time to take part in another World Cup. Now, I am only focused on Roma and I want to help the club do more in the present and the future.”

Before the break, Mourinho had suggested that Abraham’s poor form was also due to concerns over a snub from England for the World Cup.

Abraham became Roma’s most prolific debutant last season, managing 27 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions, but hasn’t been able to replicate the same this term.

“These things happen in football, this time it was me having highs and lows,” he said. “It happened to other players before and it will happen again. Last season everything went the right way for me. This time I had a slow start, it’s true, but the team and I want to get revenge. I am convinced these moments make you stronger in the long run.”

In the first part of his interview with Gazzetta, the 25-year-old described his rapport with Mourinho saying that the Special One is the coach he needs.
