Tammy Abraham is only one goal away from matching a Roma record set by Vincenzo Montella and Gabriel Batistuta.

The 24-year-old English striker is having an incredible debut season in Serie A under Jose Mourinho, justifying the €40m paid to bring him to the Italian capital from Chelsea last summer. He has quickly adapted to the Italian game and settled in well with his new teammates.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Abraham is close to matching the record of goals scored in a debut season at Roma, set by Montella and Batistuta at 21 goals. The Englishman has currently netted 20 times across all competitions and he could take the title by scoring just two more times from now until the end of the season.

Montella was 26 at the end of the 1999-2000 season when he set the record and Batistuta was 32 when he matched it a year later. In comparison, the Englishman is only 24 and is contracted to the Giallorossi until 2026, meaning that he’ll be shining in Rome for years to come.

  1. Serie A is not the same competition it was then. And as for the Conference League…

But he can still be a considered a very good player without quite being on the same level as those guys.
