Christian Abbiati says he will retire at the end of the season if he doesn’t sign a new contract with Milan.
The 36-year-old penned a new one-year contract last summer, but it is unclear whether he will be offered another one.
“It’s clear that you start to pick up a few injuries as you get closer to your 37th birthday,” the goalkeeper noted.

“It’s clear that you start to pick up a few injuries as you get closer to your 37th birthday,” the goalkeeper noted.
“However, I remain at the club’s disposal for anything. There is no law saying that I have to be the first choice forever.
“But it is clear that when Milan say stop, then I’ll say stop. If I don’t sign a renewal then I will probably quit the game.”
Abbiati was subsequently asked about his possible replacement – his current reserve Gabriel or Genoa youngster Mattia Perin.
“Gabriel still needs to grow,” the former Italian international added. “He’s made a few errors, but that is because he wants to impress.
“Being the Milan goalkeeper is tough, but I, for example, don’t hear the jeers. Actually, they help me on.
“Perin? He’s done well, but he is young and there is pressure here.”
Abbiati was signed by Milan in 1998. He spent time on loan at Juventus, Torino and Atletico Madrid in his career, but returned to San Siro in 2008.
