“I’m happy that Allegri has stayed with us,” Abbiati, who signed a new deal until 2014 last month, told Panorama.

“We’ve had three excellent seasons with him in charge, campaigns in which we came first, second and third.

“This term we had to deal with a difficult start seeing as the squad was revolutionised in the summer months.

“The Coach did excellently in compacting the squad and managing to secure Champions League qualification. That was very important for us.”

“Our intent is to grow and improve. The club is making moves with some precise ideas and by focusing on youth.

“Obviously Juventus, seeing what they have done over the last two seasons, will start the new campaign as favourites. But we will certainly give it our best shot.”
