The Rossoneri struggled in the first half at the Stadio Castellani, but broke away with Gianluca Lapadula’s brace, Suso and an Andrea Costa own goal.

“It was a good performance and we showed great solidity. It’s a really great show of maturity, as this is the kind of game we used to lose. We’ve got the right mentality now,” Abate told Mediaset Premium.

Empoli caused us problems, but we created many scoring opportunities. In the second half we played like a great team and killed off the match. We have improved in terms of quality coming out of defence and the belief that we are strong on a purely technical level.”

Milan are currently second in the standings awaiting Roma’s game with Pescara tomorrow evening.

“This is the wrong time to look at the table, we’re not so stupid as to have forgotten the last three years weren’t up to our standards,” added the full-back.

“We just need to keep our heads down and keep pushing. The Coach has done really well to isolate us from all negative thoughts and help us focus.”
