Ignazio Abate believes Milan teammate Mario Balotelli can be a ‘protagonist’ for the rest of the season.

The forward has returned the Rossoneri after an unsuccessful spell with Liverpool, and Abate took the time to praise him in an interview with Milan Channel.

“Mario is doing great in training, and he was good in the derby,” the full-back explained.

“I’m sure that from here until the end he can be a protagonist, although we don’t want to put too much responsibility on him.

“Mario is doing great in training, and he was good in the derby,” the full-back explained.

“I’m sure that from here until the end he can be a protagonist, although we don’t want to put too much responsibility on him.

“He has to be able to find consistency, something which he’s been missing so far in his career.”

Abate then looked forward the Saturday’s Palermo game, as well as the objectives for the rest of the season.

“It will be a difficult match, but they’ll be meeting a Milan that needs three points. It will certainly be a different game to the derby.

“They’ll be happy to close things up and wait, so we’ll have to be patient and avoid getting caught on the counter-attack.

“If we show the same spirit as the derby, and the same attacking mentality then I think we’ll do well

“The League? We have to get to the top, then we just have to get three points and try to put together a nice run of results.

“This squad believes that we have all the skills.

“I think we’re a good team with a great Coach [Sinisa Mihajlovic] who makes us work well from a physical point of view.

“I’m sure our Coach will take us to great achievements together.”
