Banners and posters have begun to spring up around the Italian capital supporting Jose Mourinho following his dismissal from Roma.

The 60-year-old Portuguese coach was dismissed by the club on Tuesday, following their 3-1 loss to Milan on the weekend. It brought an end to his two-and-a-half-year spell with the Giallorossi, which saw him take the team to unprecedented heights in Europe.

Mourinho guided Roma to the Conference League title in his first season and a Europa League final in his second, missing out on the latter trophy on penalties. Things were more difficult in the league, where the club finished sixth in both of his campaigns.

La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted how countless posters showing Mourinho kissing the Conference League trophy along with the message ‘Thank you Mister’ have recently begun to appear in the streets of Rome, showing the Giallorossi fans’ continued support of their now-former coach.

In the early hours of Friday morning, a banner appeared on Via Laurentina, the road that leads to Roma’s Trigoria training ground. It read: ‘Ghost club, players without balls. Honour to you Jose Mourinho.’

Roma replaced Mourinho with former midfielder Daniele De Rossi, handing him a short-term contract to the end of the season.

During Mourinho’s 30-month spell with the Giallorossi, he oversaw 138 matches in total, picking up 68 wins, 30 draws and 40 losses.
