According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus directors have met Kalvin Phillips’ agents in London and both the English midfielder and Manchester City are open to discussing a six-month loan in Turin.

Phillips wants more playing time and is therefore ready to leave Manchester City in the January transfer window.

Juventus directors Cristiano Giuntoli and Giovanni Manna travelled to London earlier this week to watch Tottenham-Chelsea and meet members of Stellar Group who represent their midfielder Nicolò Fagioli and Man City’s Phillips.

Fagioli has been suspended for seven months following a betting scandal and will remain out for the remainder of the season. Nevertheless, Juventus have reached an agreement to extend his contract and during talks with the Italian midfielder’s agents, Giuntoli and Manna also discussed Phillips’ future.

According to Gazzetta, Phillips is open to joining Juventus on a six-month loan and Manchester City are also ready to part ways with the Englishman on a temporary transfer.

This doesn’t mean the deal is done already as Juventus hope Manchester City will pay part of the player’s salary if Phillips moves to Turin. The ex-Leeds midfielder gets €5m per season, so Juventus would need to pay €2.5m for six months, a sum they don’t want to invest as Giuntoli and Manna are also trying to lower the Bianconeri’s wage bill.

Furthermore, Juventus must discuss Phillips’ potential move with coach Massimiliano Allegri given that the Manchester City man is a defensive midfielder, while the Old Lady’s boss may need more quality in the middle of the park, following suspensions to Fagioli and Paul Pogba.
