The Supercoppa Italiana between Inter and Milan will be played in Saudi Arabia in January 2023.
This tournament is between the winners of the Serie A title, specifically Milan, and Coppa Italia holders Inter.
Lega Serie A chief Luigi De Siervo confirmed in an interview with RAI GR Parlamento that they are still held to an existing contract to hold a certain number of the events in Saudi Arabia.
“It is a contract we inherited and it will be the final year. It’s going to be in January and once again our product will be exported,” said De Siervo.
Inter won the Supercoppa in January 2022 after beating Juventus 2-1 in the final seconds of extra time, with the fixture hosted at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan.
He also warned that there could be a format change in future for the Supercoppa, which is currently decided in one game after 90 minutes, extra time or penalties.
“For the future, we are considering the Spanish option, so the top two teams from both competitions playing in semi-finals and a Final. We are evaluating the period that could be across the Winter break.”
Come on. Better in San Siro with half of each team fans. 2 teams from San Siro playing outside San Siro? Really? What a joke.
Agreed.
San Siro is the best place for it.
