Immobile out of Finalissima and Italy’s Nations League clashes

Ciro Immobile is reportedly going to be out of action for a month, meaning the Lazio striker will miss Italy’s Finalissima with Argentina and four Nations League matches.

The centre-forward was crowned Capocannoniere and received the award as Striker of the Year in Serie A for the 2021-22 campaign.

However, he has been dealing with a recurring ankle injury and hasn’t featured since facing Sampdoria on May 7.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Immobile will have to be out of action for at least a month over the summer, hoping to be ready for the start of pre-season training in July.

That is because there is evidence of not just an ankle sprain, but also a microfracture, which is causing the on-going pain.

Italy are due to play Argentina in the Finalissima at Wembley Stadium on June 1, a clash between the European Championship winners and Copa America holders.

After that, Roberto Mancini’s side take part in the Nations League against Germany on June 4 and 14, Hungary on June 7 and England on June 11.

Great! It’ll mean we’ll score now. Forza Azzurri

I’m sorry that he’s injured but thank God he’s not gonna play for Italy. Time to move on.

Agree. He has had enough chances. He may be a great striker but for Italy, he is a burden. Even in Euro, he wasn’t a threat. Drop him. Shame after Vieri, (Pelle and Toni were not bad) Italy didn’t have a good striker after that. Chiesa injury was quite a blow. Still painful about the World cup.

    I agree with above

Some of the problem is how he was asked to play in the national team. Lazio creates chances for him but Mancini insisted on having him play as a near fake 9.
Sorry but Mancini makes amazinglybad decisions. Th epmayers carried him at the Euros but his limitations are pretty clear.

Mancini would have started Immobile if he wasn’t injured and still puts Belotti on the team who’s just as worthless but Mancini’s as stubborn as hell, not a great coach and should have been fired when Italy failed to qualify for the WC.

Why is Italy always in the “Group of Death” ? I believe it’s conspiratorial from FIFA who despises Italy and seemingly has a love affair with anything English. Statistically, just doesn’t make sense and we know from the past that FIFA is a very corrupt organization.

With Italian national team psychologically frayed and disjointed from their disgraceful failure of not qualifying for the WC, and obviously in a rebuilding phase , what genius in the Italian soccer federation scheduled 5 matches in 15 days ! If this cascades into a series of defeats it will do irreparable damage to the players and take years to recover from.
