The new Serie A season begins today and some players will be wearing special commemorative patches as the best of 2018-19.

It all kicks off at 17.00 UK time with Parma v Juventus, followed by Fiorentina v Napoli at 19.45.

Fabio Quagliarella will have one all of his own representing his status as reigning Capocannoniere, having scored 26 goals.

The Sampdoria striker will continue to wear that particular patch on his jersey in every Serie A game for this term.

Other patches represent the winners of the inaugural Serie A MVP Awards, handed out based on a statistical analysis.

They are Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Sampdoria forward Quagliarella and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Roma starlet Nicolò Zaniolo was named best young player.
