Roma have officially signed William Bianda from RC Lens for €6m plus up to €5m in various bonuses and 15 per cent of the profit from his future sale.

“I am happy to be here. Roma are a very big club,” the centre-back told the official Roma website.

“I’m sure this is the right choice for me, for my progression and for this next stage of my career.”

It is their ninth purchase of the summer under director of sport Monchi.

The details of the operation are surprisingly costly for a player who only turned 18 in April.

“AS Roma SpA announce the purchase of William Bianda from French club Racing club de Lens for €6m and variable, up to a maximum of €5m, performance-related bonuses.

“Lens also retain the right to 15% of the profit from any future transfer fee, accounting for the initial fee paid by Roma and any add-on clauses that may have been met at that point.”

Bianda has signed a five-year contract with the Giallorossi that runs until 30 June 2023 and will wear the Number 28 shirt.

“With the signing of William, Roma continues its investment in young talent,” said sporting director Monchi.

“We are certain that, with the help of our coaches and our experienced players, William will continue to improve and realise his potential.”
