Roberto Soriano insists ‘my preference was always to stay at Sampdoria’, despite a deal with Napoli.

The midfielder was on the verge of joining the Partenopei on transfer deadline day, but the transfer could not be completed in time, and the Italian international today signed a new contract until 2020 with the Blucerchiati.

“I’m delighted to have renewed,” Soriano explained at a Press conference to announce the renewal.

“I thank everyone at the club. The only way to repay them is to do well and give my all. There was a negotiation [with Napoli] it’s true, but my preference was always to stay at Sampdoria.

“Eder and I were at Coverciano together on the last day of the transfer window, and we were both on the phone all day.

“There was a deal for me, but that chapter is closed, I’m happy here and now I have to repay this faith on the pitch.”
