Lorenzo De Silvestri is aiming to get back into the Italy squad, after signing his new Sampdoria contract.

The defender injured his knee during the Euro 2016 qualifier with Croatia in June, and is targeting a return to Antonio Conte’s squad.

“I was injured there [on Italy duty] at the end of the most important season for me,” De Silvestri told journalists at a Press conference to announce his renewal.

“The goal is to get back in, and I’ll make it.”

The 27-year-old also discussed his pride at renewing with the Blucerchiati until 2017.

“I’m proud to have signed this contract, especially in this very challenging period for me. I thank the club, I’m sorry I can’t get back on the pitch immediately, I miss it.

“I need two weeks, and then I’ll have to get back into top condition.”
