Having broken down again on his return against Inter, the Italian international once again went off injured in the 1-0 win over the Tuscans, this time with a thigh injury.

“Having exited the field of play during the second half of Juventus’ win over Empoli on Saturday evening, Giorgio Chiellini underwent tests this afternoon, which revealed a first-grade tear in the adductor longus muscle in his right thigh,” a statement on Juventus’ official website confirmed.

“The defender will be out of action for approximately 20 days.”

The three-week spell on the sidelines means Chiellini will miss Milan, Palermo and Lazio, and he’s likely to be out for Fiorentina too.

The latest setback means the Italian defender has played just 90 minutes in the last two months.
