FantAntonio hasn’t played in over two years, having been frozen out by Sampdoria and then walking out on Verona in pre-season.

“Today was a wonderful day, I’m happy to return to the pitch,” Cassano told Sky after training today.

“I’m very happy, I need to thank President Gozzi for giving me this opportunity, I’ve made this choice to return to training and I thank him.

“It’s a bet I made for my wife and my children. I won’t have any more ‘Cassanate’, I’ve grown up and I don’t want to disappoint anyone.

“I’ve got my fingers crossed for the club at the sentencing tomorrow, but I’d play in Serie C because I’d do anything for President Gozzi. He’s one of the few serious people in football.”

Francesco Totti called Cassano one of his most talented teammates in his autobiography, ‘Un Capitano’.

“He told the truth, we had a lot of fun together and he’s right to say I only realised 30-40 per cent of my potential.

“If I had the attitude I have now 10 years ago, I’d have done and won a lot more.”

The 36-year-old was also asked who he thinks is the best striker and Coach in Serie A.

“[Gonzalo] Higuain is the best striker in the world, along with [Luis] Suarez.

“The best Coach? I can tell you the best I worked with and that’s Cesare Prandelli. It’s a scandal that he’s not working.”
