Despite a tough debut season at PSG, Italy legend Dino Zoff insists that Gigio Donnarumma is Italy’s best goalkeeper: ‘He made us win the Euros.’

Donnarumma was not a regular starter in Paris as Mauricio Pochettino rotated him and Keylor Navas between the sticks in 2021-22. Gigio had highs and lows in his first season in Paris, both for club and country, but Zoff still has plenty of trust in the former Milan shot-stopper.

“Donnarumma is the highest expression of the goalkeeper’s role today, he made us win the Euros,” he told Tg2 Post.

Zoff won the World Cup in 1982, while Italy have now missed out on two consecutive editions of the tournament.

“We are out of the World Cup, but it was important to win the Euros,” said Zoff.

“Not playing at the World Cup twice in a row is a huge blow, but today we absorb it better than during my times.”

Donnarumma played 23 games in his first season at the Parc des Princes, keeping nine clean sheets in 23 games. His contract with the Ligue 1 giants runs out in June 2026.

The former Milan star conceded 265 goals in 251 games with the Rossoneri. He made his senior Azzurri debut in September 2016 and has 46 caps to his name.

  1. Donnarumma is NOT the best goalkeeper and his form has rapidly deteriorated on the same downward trajectory as the Italian National team unfortunately, he’s a psychological mess and should spend his money on a very good psychiatrist !
