The ex-goalkeeper is a popular figure at both clubs, having won six Scudetti as a player for the Bianconeri and been Coach of the Biancocelesti twice, as well as sporting director.

“The two sides are coming into it well,” Zoff said on Radio Incontro Olympia.

“On Sunday they didn’t get results but they’ve both had an extraordinary season. The solidity of Juventus against the verve of Lazio: it will be a great match.

“Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira? Juventus have always shown that even with big names missing they have the ability to overcome difficulties. They’ll feel it [their absence] but not too much.”

Zoff was also asked about Paul Gascoigne, the troubled former Lazio midfielder who will turn 50 in 10 days.

“I remember every colour: beautiful, ugly desperate. He’s one who throws away his genius with incorrect behaviours.

“I’m someone who looks at the long term, if someone has behavioural problems during the best part of their career, then you know how things will go when it’s all over.

“He was a crazy artist who made me suffer, I’ve always admired him.”
